Audra Mcdonald stands out in the breadth of her talent and her versatility as a singer and actor. Record-breaking six times recipient from her Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards, and the Emmy Award she received in the year 2015 by Barack Obama. Because of her beautiful tone, and unbeatable ability to tell dramatic stories She has had success both on Broadway as well as at the opera and in both film and television. Alongside her stage performances, she also has been a busy singer and a concert artist. She regularly performs in the best venues of the world. Born into a musical family McDonald grew up within Fresno California and received her singing training in the classical style at the New York's Juilliard School. When she graduated, she won her very first Tony Award as Best Performance of a Featured Artist musical at the Lincoln Center Theater for Carousel (1994). The next four years she received two additional Tony Awards in the featured actress category for her performances in the Broadway premier of Terrence McNally's play Master Class (1996) and the musical Ragtime (1998) giving her an unprecedented total of three Tony Awards before the age of 30. In 2004, she was nominated to win her 4th Tony Award. She was in the role of A Raisin in the Sun alongside Sean Diddy Combs. And in 2012, her fifth Tony and first for the category of Leading Actress was awarded to her for her portrayal as the titular character in The Gershwins Porgy and Bess. In her role as the Tony Awards' most decorated actor, she managed to set Broadway historical records when she won her sixth Tony Award playing Billie Holiday as Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill. This part also gave her the opportunity to make the Olivier Award nominee 2017 London West End debut. Along with setting the record as the most wins in a competitive area by an actor she also became the first actor to receive awards in the four acting categories. McDonald has also been featured for other productions in the theatre, including The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (1999), Henry IV 2004 110 in the Shade (2006) Twelfth Nigh (2009) The Twelfth Night is her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park debut shuffle Along Or the Making of the Musical Sense in 1921 and All That Followed (16) Frankie and Johnny in Clair de Lune (192019) as well as Ohio State Murders (2023) McDonald's debut as a dramatic actor on television was with the Peabody Award-winning CBS program Having Our Say The Delany Sistersthe first 100 years. The following year, she received her debut Emmy nomination in recognition of her performance in the HBO film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit directed by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson McDonald returned to network television in 2003 with the political drama Mister Sterling, produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. and featuring Josh Brolin. The Bedford Diaries on the WB at the beginning of 2006, and Kidnapped, NBC. McDonald received a fourth Emmy for her role as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill on HBO in the year 2016. The Bite is a drama featuring six episodes that are based on an epidemic, produced through Spectrum Originals & CBS Studios. McDonald starred in the show with Taylor Schilling & Steven Pasquale. The year 2009 saw her debut, McDonald portrayed U.S. Attorney Liz Lawrence in CBS's legal drama The Good Wife. In 2018, McDonald reprised her role as Liz Reddick as a regular in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. She was awarded three Critics Choice Award nods for the role. She's currently appearing as guest on Julian Fellowes' historical comedy The Gilded Age.
